Enzo Sono Lina - Crowdfunding

Enzo Sono Lina (which means Enzo, it’s Lina) is a voice messages archive contained in disused answering machines, the collection is limited to the analog recorded tapes, which were common in ’80 and ’90. Enece Film developed a movie using the messages from the archive.

We were asked by Enece Film to curate the identity for the crowdfunding of the movie.

For a better undertanding of the project we have listen several tapes and read about 500 pages of copied messages from the archive and we selected the most interesting and particular sentences, which were collected at the end of the notebook. From the first selection we defined a sentence which could talk about the project and that could have sense and been charming also if read without knowing it. The selected one is “Io sono quello dopo il segnale acustico”, which means “I am the one after the beep”.

We started thinking about how to represent the overdubbing, the noise and the interruption typical of the messages we have listened in the tapes.

A project by Bruno Munari came to our mind, it was a series of abstract illustrations he did for the Gianni Rodari’s book “Favole al telefono” (Tales at the phone).

Inspirated by that, we designed a second layer over the text, which maintain the sentence readable but create interferences. These signs is a tribute to the unconscious drawing that people are used to do while speaking on a wired phone.

These signs change through the different items of the campaign, they were hand drawn to get a coherency with the analogue recording system of the answering machine.

We also would like to communicate the existence of the archive, therefore we insert some secondary texts reporting the information of the messages: type of tape, minutes, location and type of voice.

We imagine the project with a low-fi mood, therefore we decided to print all the items by ourselves: the bag and the poster is silkscreened, the notebook is Risograph printed.
