Træna festivalen existed from 1978 to 1998. But then in a small format and internally for the island's population + some disturbed tourists. Today's festival was first organized in 2003 and has continued until today. In a fantastic setting and strong artistic integrity, the festival has consolidated its position as one of Northern Norway's most beautiful cultural events.
Træna is one of the country's smallest municipalities with approx. 450 inhabitants. At Husøy there are 381 people. A vibrant society with over 60 pupils at the children's and youth school, a major fishing company, lies 33 nautical miles straight into the sea from Sandnessjøen, in the middle of the polar circle.
The rumor of the special festival atmosphere has reached the music society. Among the artists who have performed are the French artist Manu Chao, Swedish Timbuktu and Neneh Cherry, Irish Damien Rice, British The Correspondents and Charlie XCX and Australian Ry X. The Norwegian A-team, led by Sivert Høyem, Susanne Sundfør, Ingrid Olava, Ida Maria, Lars Vaular, Sigrid, Todd Terje, Aurora, Wardruna, Kings of Convenience and many more artists also visit us. Such a small island has limited capacity, so only 2800 festival passes are sold. Træna festival thus becomes an exclusive experience.
