Everyone is Entitled to My Opinion – Calligraphy

Project:
Everyone is entitled to my opinion –
Experimental Calligraphy

Description:
I created this project for a calligraphy contest. The goal of the contest was to create a poster composed of handwritten elements with a personal statement concerning a political, social or cultural topic.

I chose to highlight the deterioration of our societal culture of debate. The poster showcases how people of all political stripes are insisting on their opinion, unwilling to listen to or discuss with people with differing views.
Experiments:
At the beginning of the project I was trying out different paints and techniques.
Both works are written with a cola pen on wet paper – with blue gouache and black ink.
For this work I used a paint roller and acrylic paint.
For these letters I also used a paint roller and acrylic paint. But beforehand I drenched the paper in oil.
The Final Result:
For my poster I combined several handwritten elements to create a sarcastic statement about our culture of debate. The white writing in the foreground says that everyone is entitled to their opinion. But the background is completely covered with the word “mine”.

I also added smaller texts. One shows the original quote from Madonna. The other one explains the intention behind my statement.
The Workflow:
I wrote the words “everyone is entitled to their opinion” with a cola pen and ink on rough paper. The word “mine” in the background I created using a paint roller and acrylic paint on oil-drenched paper. I combined and recolored these elements in Photoshop.
Thank You!
