Old Touma

I love typography and type design, lettering, and calligraphy. I love old letters, old script, anything written with a nib and ink. I often refer to the grocery store as the Lettering Art Gallery of Print Reproduction. Old Touma was designed to assess the personality of each design job and make it unique and distinctive, to expresses the particular aesthetic taste, perspective and personal history.

I wanted to design a typeface that would work well with stores, restaurant signs and displays. I wanted this font to have the same usage that Hand Lettering has.  I designed a serif font that fit well in any design, a typeface that can provide enough variation with bolds, italics and small caps.

Serif fonts are usually easier to read in printed works than sans-serif fonts.  The serif makes the individual letters more distinctive and easier for our brains to recognize quickly. Without the serif, the brain has to spend longer identifying the letter because the shape is less distinctive. The commonly used convention for printed work is to use a serif font for the body of the work.
