Vayi- Craft Design Project

This collection is a tribute to female weavers of Chanderi "Vayi" in Hindi means "female weaver". This is a common saying in Chanderi that women tends to make more mistakes while weaving so opposed to that we convinced women weaver of the family to weave for us. It was an experimental collection in which we tried to incorporate new and easy weaving techniques that are not used in Chanderi while keeping the essence of the designs produced in Chanderi.
1. Color gradation was created by using 2-3 colors of yarns. 2. Stole inspired from the trend of yarn unravelling. 3. Diamond weave incorporated with the stole and tie-dyed yarn used for color gradation.
1. Stole inspired from "breaking symmetry". Ogee pattern was woven in the body of the stole where it was left incomplete at few places to create a look of asymmetry. In the border, yarn play was done by inserting thicker count yarn in between thin count yarn. 2. Traditional pattern of checks made with sari used in Chanderi fabric with contemporary leaf motif.
1. Traditional sikka motif in a contemporary form was used. In the borders, a textured weave is used with tasseled edges. 2. Diamond weave is woven using partially dyed yarn to obtain textured effect.
