Thanks to Adobe’s summer campaign, I was able to experience Createfulness and offer tips on how to create a more personal app prototype with XD.

As part of this project, Adobe provided vintage assets from the private collection of designer Erik Spiekermann and the Tipoteca Museum. I was immediately drawn to a 1920s illustration of a car that was designed by A. Hofer from the Paris-based foundry Deberny & Peignot. Since I love cars and driving, I was inspired to design a driving app prototype for finding popular driving roads.

I took the car illustration and made it into the splash screen, and then used some of the other pattern elements, deconstructed them, and made them into route symbols. The resulting experience is very contemporary yet shows off some of that classic clean design style of the elements.

Working in XD, the prototype feature really let me experience the app as one would on a phone, seamlessly going from the splash screen to the “Best Roads” screen, allowing me to auto animate the transitions of the screens.

I would love to take this app further, so that people could have their own profiles, upload pictures of roads they’ve been on and make recommendations in order to create a really unique experience for drivers.
