Bergamo Skatepark

PROJECT INTRODUCTION
In 2017 I developed the project of a new 1440 m² concrete skatepark at Quarenghi Surveyor Institute, as part of my final high school exams. Then I updated the shapes and the street obstacles area for this final version. Until today it is still on paper but never say never because skateboarding taught me that you can't give up. Meanwhile, let's take a closer look at the design!
STREET OBSTACLES | TRANSITION RAMPS
The skatepark includes a wide variety of objects that you can usually find around the streets of any modern city. Each element was rethought through their dimensions, proportions, materials and finishing surfaces to guarantee a better skate experience. But the core of the project is a large number of classic transition skate ramps that are different in height and radius. Sometimes, they are also added with uncommon and unique details such as the double steal cooping or the concrete one. Skaters can mix the use of the structures from both categories in every single line, doing different tricks.
DESIGN CRITERIA
When you are approaching the design stage of a skatepark you should follow some simple rules. Accessibility: a nice construction is useful and funny for a professional skateboarder as well as an amateur kid. The different dimensions of the ramps help the local skate scene grown. Creativity: the design is unique and skaters can approach different elements in a lot of directions, finding new solutions and lines. Quality: the right geometry and materials choice bring to functionality. For example, you can apply layers of resin over the concrete to reach the best smooth grade and durability.
LOCAL COMMUNITY
The meeting point for the skaters in Bergamo has always been the old skatepark in Villa di Serio. There, the locals constantly fix the wooden ramps and also try to create small DIY obstacles. Therefore, I hope in future collaboration among the City, users, designers and builders to create a better and long lasting park.
