"otherland" is a project I had in mind for quite a long time. I wanted to create a realistic but still mystic scene that is located somewhere in a big city. I play around with subway entrances since more then 15 years already, this one is the first one that I created via rendering, using Cinema 4D.
The clay image shows that in general I use simple shapes, who get their detailed information more by using convincing shaders than by modelling complex objects. I guess that´s typical for a scene like this one. Anyway, I modelled all objects myself.
The street shader is based on photogrammetry, I got it from RDT textures. I love the realistic look that is possible with those shaders. The shopping cart was a bit time consuming. I found a cart in my backyard and took it up to my studio, so I had a very good template.
German artist Cornelius Dämmrich (check out his work, he´s amazing) probably would have used one million times more of these stickers. Anyway, the ones I used do their job I think.
For rendering the scene I used MAXONs inbuilt physical renderer (8000 px long side). The blooming of the lights was good, but Photoshop brought it from 98% to almost 99,9%. Hope to reach 100% one day!
