Wolf and Fox | Wolf en Jakkals
Tales about animals feature heavily in children's literature in South Africa and some of the most popular characters that I
and many children grew up with were Wolf and Fox.
For this bookbinding project, I chose one of Fox and Wolf's many tales to redesign and interpret in my own way.
The result is two books – one in which I have kept the original Afrikaans story, and a new, adapted English version – which I designed, illustrated and bound myself.
My main objective behind these books was to revive an old classic for a more contemporary audience. With a fresh, highly illustrative design I hoped to breathe some new life into a childhood favourite. Two translations help to bridge the language barrier, opening the story up to a much wider audience while remaining true to the original.
