Lesvos dialect dictionary
This editorial design project refers to the culture of Lesvos island, aiming to promote and visually express its identity. The first part of the final project explores the idea of the language as a valuable medium of local identity and regional culture.
Culture means diversity and so does language. Dialects reflect on a region’s history, people’s mentality, aesthetics, and as a result they become one of the purest and most spontaneous forms of identity.
As they are mostly spoken and seldom written, I decided to write down, visualise and eventually create
Lesvos dialect dictionary.
This editorial demonstrates a sample of local dialects (including both words and expressions) that appear
on the island, accompanied with some playful illustrations.The content of the book is based upon research
of linguistic articles, books and oral testimonies of locals.
