Hiking Along the Blue Ridge Parkway

The Blue Ridge Parkway winds 469 miles through Virginia and North Carolina. A major road, the Parkway stretches across southern and central Appalachia and passes through places of diverse and rich natural resources. Along the Parkway are more than 369 miles of hiking trails and over 100 different trails that offer something for hikers of all skill and fitness levels.

Trails can lead hikers to cascading waterfalls, gorges with pockets of wildflowers, and blue-misted mountains. Some trails lead to historical locations, while others traverse unique geographical and biological environments.

By milepost, some of the trails in Virginia include the 0.25 mile Mountain Farm Trail at milepost 5.9 that is categorized as easy and the 1.2 mile Apple Orchard Falls Trail at milepost 78.4 that is categorized as strenuous. In North Carolina, there is the 0.5 mile Cumberland Knob Trail at milepost 217.5 that is considered easy and the challenging 2 mile Gully Creek Trail.
