Sutartinės (from the word sutarti – to be in concordance) is a form of polyphonic music performed by female singers in north-east Lithuania. Sutartinės was inscribed in 2010 on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Now Sutartinės comes alive in both traditional and modernized sound. But this is no longer enough. These days most of the sound come with graphic content. But for Sutartinės, there are just a few such examples.

Could anyone have thought that these Lithuanian multipart songs have connections with weaving? The interweaving of different voice tunes in the arrangement is remarkably similar to the weaving process. The similarity to fabrics became even more evident when composer Dainius Valionis tried to write notes on millimetre paper in 1997 and noticed that it turned into ornaments that are similar to our national patterns. This composer experiment is not much known. So my goal was to spread the discovery and continue his research in another form.

I adapted the notation method, created patterns from glee notes and made an audio-visual solution that became an installation. All project was animated just by two patterns which have been fragmented to reveal the most important points. Projections start with the largest patterns - the structure of the ornaments. The second part moves on to the visual text  and weaving process breakdown of Sutartinė. There was used thread (an allusion to weaving, fabric structure), wood and roots (connection with glee text) motifs.
