Sumuk Sideboard ver. 1

Product Story

Me and my friends visited Indonesia during our summer holiday on 2017. We rented a house and there was a big window upstairs. The weather there was humid and when there was a rain it became foggy afterwards, so whenever the rain comes the scenery of the mountain through the window got blurry. That view gave me the emotional comfort. Also, I thought that scene looks very alike with the oriental painting. Therefore, I wanted to project that atmosphere to the furniture.

Performance & Design

When the user puts some 3D objects such as bowls or cups into the Sumuk Sideboard, the shadows of the objects will emerge on to the front screen made with delicately sanded urethane string which attempts to give rainy atmosphere. This special visual effect occurs because of the structure of Sumuk Sideboard, which has back light that creates shadows. Eventually, those shadows will create images of mountains. Also, the shelves made with clear acrylic planted inside, which are not going to be projected on the front screen, help creating not only the diverse shadow images made with hight deference of each shelves, but also create the look that looks like the objects are floating.
