The Rust Project

"Rust"
This is one of my all time favorite photographs. Taken at a school that is no longer in use near Elkhart; is the inspiration for my final project.
"Stairs"
This building houses The Loft and is located on the west side of the Elkhart River in downtown Elkhart, Indiana.
"The Ford"
Driving down the back roads near Ligonier, IN, I came cross this old Ford truck being used as a planter.  The farmer was very obliging.
"The Phone"
The subject of this photo is of course an old wall phonestand. that has become rusted with tiime.
"The Electric Pole"
The long line of rusted poles stand in stark contrast in the tall creen stalks of corn.  This picture was taken on a narrow country road in Noble Count, IN.

"The Pioneer Silo"
Taken on a farm in Southeast Elkhart County near Middlebury, IN.
"The Sprinkler"
The water system was taken on an Amish farm in western Noble County.
"The Train Bridge"
Directly behind the Gyros King on Main Street near Dunlap sits this railroad bridge spanning a small stream.  In the forground these flowers cover a moss covered wall.

"The Windows"
This picture is of the Loft building in downtown Elkhart as the sun was setting.  The windows reflect the bright orange glow of the sun.  All the windows have rusted frames with panes of rusted wire glass.
"The Alley"
Getting lost in the small rural town of Ligonier I came across this very clean yet old alley.  The subject is the stairs floating in the background.
"The Fence"
Taken in the Sterling South Neighborhood of Elkhart, Indian.  The fence stands as a rusted barrier to the abandoned building it surrounds.
When I looked at all my photography projects, I found that I liked the Architecture project the most.  The "Rust" photograph was the inspiration for the theme of this final project.  I traveled throughout Elkhart, Noble, and St Joseph Count in Indiana and Williams County in Ohio to capture many of the images. I like the way the color of rust contrast with the many other hues of nature in the settings of these pictures as well as the brick and mortar buildinsg in other pictures.  I didn't have difficulties in finding things that are rusted, I did; however, found it a bit challenging to get permission to photograph subjects.  I choose the top 10 to fit the assignment; the grid portion contains photos I just wanted to show.

I have learned about how important it is to know where the sun in when taking pictures outdoors. This understanding of light was really important when using particular f/stop settings and ISO settings.  I used an adjustable 18-55 mm lens and various ISO and f/stop settings.  I leaned that using the aperture priority mode is best when taking landscape picture. Setting the f/stop between f/11-f/25 and keeping the ISO setting low allowed the camera to dictate the shutter speed.
