J. Mačiūnas letters interpretation

George Mačiūnas letters. Prints
This project, created during my studies at Vilnius Academy of Arts, is a visual interpretation of George Mačiūnas letters. George Mačiūnas was a founding member and the central coordinator of Fluxus, an international community of artists, architects, composers, and designers.

Jurgis Mačiūnas wrote many letters to his colleagues and friends and I tried to represent it in a visual way. As a metaphor for the letter, I have chosen the symbol of the shirt - this is the closest wearing to our body. In my opinion, when people are writing letters, they are kind of naked. At that moment our clothing gets additional meaning –it becomes the symbol and identity of our soul.

My decision was to combine a text of letters and a graphic of the shirt. So, at the beginning l made a print of original size of shirts. At the second step, i used old, original typography letters and combined it with the print of shirts. This project consists of three different prints, which depicts all those steps. All together artworks convey the idea of Jurgis Mačiūnas acting and contemplation.
