In 2009 The Energy Savings Trust ( EST ) aired a series of TV spots to inform and
promote efficient energy consumption, The "meet Dave" Campaign.
In the spring of that year, soon after its first showing the London based design consultancy Whorrell Rogers was tasked with designing and producing the bulk of the subsequent
support literature. This included the EST branding & identity guidelines, print material,
on line presence etc. Leaving the remaining roll-on productions to forthcoming local and regional agencies.
Having extensively worked in the past with Paul Rogers ( co-founder & creative director )
I was commissioned to... "create & develop, an easy to recreate, print friendly, 3rd party intuitive, any one else can do this too, version of the "meet Dave" TV CGI animated style.
Taking my lead from the previously established EST TV commercials and being heavily influenced by Trey Parker's & Matt Stone's "South Park" paper collage style of animation "Flat Dave" was born.
The Flat Dave style had been developed to allow 3rd party creatives to easily create their
own characters and situations and stay "in style" and "on message". Additionaly I assisted in the writing and production of the guidelines to that very end.
Flat Dave has an extensive range of support characters, locations, vehicles etc.
