The line has been there the whole time, ingrained into the visual hierarchy of the overall design, perfectly resting beneath the ’S’ in the USSF crest. As the line flips, the ’S’ becomes a dollar sign. This isn’t about the women’s or men’s national team at the moment, this is about bringing awareness to the greed of the federation from top to bottom. (Although coincidentally the timing of the USWNT world cup victory and equal pay movement couldn’t be better.) This logo was created out of frustration with a regional Olympic Development Program who has denied top skilled players the opportunity to participate in major ODP events due to financial hardships. As a result, the region sends strong players down to participate, but they do not send the most naturally technically/tactically gifted players. How many of the top players have slipped through the cracks due to finical hardships at these younger ages, causing a diluted talent pool as groups age up? The system is currently set up as ’pay to play’ and changes in the distribution of money need to be made. As Men In Blazers have said, “…more urban less suburban” and this is a good start. Soccer is a cultural sport and belongs in the hands of the players and families showing their passion, heart, and creativity. The federation needs to assist the culture and propel it’s players forward and invest in the future, not just take the money and run.
