The Strange Attractor
Concept Illustration via Maxon Cinema 4D, Adobe Illustrator & Photoshop
In March 2013 I was commissioned by the London studio of the internationally acclaimed design agency Coley Porter Bell, to work alongside the independent creative brand designer Louis Lygo, to explore and generate a series of 1st stage concept illustrations for a new media company.
One concept payed homage to the late-great French Artist "Moebius" ( Jean Giraud, 1938-2012 ). From a single concept sketch I was given "near" free range to realize 'Strange Attractor'. With the brief that... "it should be hard, and bright, and red... like a Ferrari or a beautiful ceramic sculpture... but if you have time just go with it... and see what you come up with..."
Once modeled in Cinema 4D, stock materials "mostly" were applied to 'the sculpture' then rendered with a multiple of different lighting rigs. Later to be applied to a number of subsequent end uses i.e. branding & identity, stationary, literature, on screen, mobile apps, advertising etc.
First stage concept is about feel, mood and direction, and more often than not, volume over finesse.
