Strabismus Sweater

This sweater was inspired by the strabismus surgery I had in the fall of 2015. According to the American Academy of Ophthalmology, “Strabismus is a visual problem in which the eyes are not aligned properly and point in different directions. One eye may look straight ahead, while the other eye turns inward, outward, upward, or downward.” I wanted to honor the journey my eyes went though as this event was very impactful both physically and emotionally. The long right arm of the garment represents my right eye pre-surgery, loose, disorderly and hard to function with. The body of the garment represents the process of healing and my eye clearing up. Finally, the short arm represents my right eye today, aligned and orderly.
