Coalescence is a food packaging project, meant to be a take-home ready to prepare meal package. The initial challenge was to combine the essence of two different cultures, Tanzanian and Egyptian, and create a product that merged the elements. Both cultures have a heavy focus on family styles, so we used this to bring the idea of coalescence: to form together to become one whole, to apply both to the family and the cultures.

Each item (spices, powders, mixes) would be stored in a different section of the three compartments. And as a series of products, certain sections would be interchangeable to create a different meal. Each package comes with a recipe card for the user to follow to get a family meal on the table quickly.

I worked on this with a partner who created the logo design and spice bottles, while I worked on creating the form and the graphics. We chose to use the graphic elements of Tanzanian inspired elements and colors, with the very bold pyramid shape to bring in the Egyptian sense.
Flat templates of one packages layers. The cone, the middle, and the bottom underneath.
