Overview: Euan Gray is a soulful and dynamic musician, skillful with jazz quartet and acoustic guitar. With his accomplished experience as a musician, he has made a bilingual musical rendition of ស្ដាយស្នេហ៍អភ័ព្វ (Unlucky Love) out of respect for Sin Sisamuth’s legacy. In collaboration with Euan, I made a lyric video for this cover based on the lyrics and words in the song.

Inspiration & Process: The concept behind this video was based on unrequited love, just like the lyrics of the song suggest, but also ended it with a hopeful note. I am a huge admirer of the 60’s and 70’s bold color palette and typography so naturally, this moodboard and palette were the perfect fit for the song. I added specifically the script-inspired yet roman touch in typography for the sense of balance between modern and vintage. When I proposed the concept and moodboard to Euan, this project was immediately kick-started.

I started first with the really rough storyboarding on paper and quickly proceeded to digital drawing to finalize the illustrations. There were around 50 of those illustrations made and motion graphic/animation to complete the lyric video.
