The game is one of the most attractive human activities. Formed in deep antiquity, it has been evolving through history and took in different phenomenons.

As game changed, so did a figure of gambler. Player evolved just as the mediums, so it makes impossible to create a unified stereotype of gambler, which could be used for every piece of culture. This study explores the romantization process of a player figure in culture with examples from art and cinema.

All collected materials are stratified according to archetypes. These are also devided into two subgroups: the ones having a negative effect (imperious, addicted, insurgent, hedonist) and others with the positive one (naive, professional, intelligent).

To compile chronological statistics, a formula was derived. It includes every figure in this study and makes them reconcilable. If the N coefficient is greater that 1, it means that the figure of the epoch Is mostly negative. And it is positive in opposite situation.
