Série de portraits d’éleveurs Maliens de la région du Baroueli, mêlant peinture et photographie, afin de mettre en valeur leur engagement pour Zanbal, une entreprise de préservation de l’environnement. Nous souhaitions aussi mettre en avant les bénéfices de ce programme pour les communautés rurales.
Les photos a l'origine de mes dessins sont de Fatoumata Diabaté et de Kani Sissoko, deux photographes Maliennes talentueuses. Les scènes sont directement inspirées de la parole des éleveurs, qui mettent en scène leur vision de l’histoire.
Chaque oeuvre utilise un dialogue riche entre photographie et dessin, tout en restant le plus fidèle possible à ce que souhaitent montrer les sujets. Cette alliance des regards crée une passerelle artistique invitant chacun à découvrir l’autre dans sa différence, sa richesse et ses accomplissements.
These are portraits of Malian farmers , from the Baroueli region. It illustrates their engagement in an agro forestery project organized by Zanbal, an environmental preservation company. The aim was to highlight the benefits of this program for rural communities, staged by the farmers themselves. The paintings are based on the photos from Fatoumata Diabaté and Kani Sissoko, combining pen and ink drawing with digital painting. Fatoumata and Kani are two talented and internationally acclaimed Malian photographers, with whom I collaborated in the project. Each artwork develops a dialogue between photography and drawing, while remaining as faithful as possible to what the subjects radiates in their dignified attitudes. This creates an artistic gateway inviting to embrace the richness in Malian culture and way of life..
“Retirer du CO2 de l’air” en faisant grandir des arbres là où il n’y en a pas, tout en consolidant l’avenir d’exploitations agricole maliennes. Voilà le crédo de l’entreprise de préservation de l’environnement Zanbal, fondée par Xavier Lacan. Les plantations se font avec des agriculteurs maliens, ce qui leur permet de dégager un revenu supplémentaire sur leurs parcelles cultivées. L’arbre est le Faidherbia albida ou balanzan, qui, une fois adulte, nourrit le bétail en saison sèche et nourrit le sol en saison pluvieuse. Le CO2 est capturé dans les arbres, et contribue à la lutte contre le réchauffement climatique.
"Capturing CO2 out of the air" by growing trees in deforested areas, while supporting the income of Malian farmers. This is the credo of Zanbal, an environmental preservation company, founded by Xavier Lacan. The plantations are carried out with Malian farmers. It allows them to generate additional income out of heir cultivated plots, and offer a peaceful perspective to their kids, in a region plaged by armed conflicts. The tree is the Faidherbia albida or "balanzan", which, once completely grown, feeds the livestock in the dry season and nourishes the soil in the rainy season. Balanzan trees capture CO2, farmers sell the carbon credits through Zanbal. All contributes to the fight against global warming.
