I chose the bathroom scene from the movie 'Enter The Void' by Gasper Noe as my reference. Noe uses the point of view technique in this film. This first perspective creates an infectious atmosphere for the audience to experience the feelings of the characters in the video better. The scene of Noe is the bathroom. He makes the whole film more vivid through the slight shaking and slow shooting speed of the video, and the sound of washing face and walking instead of background music, just as the screen is the eyes of the audience and the scene in the video is real. One interesting point in Noe's work is that the protagonist is looking in the mirror. I'm curious about how he shot it, because I didn't see any equipment in the film. Although I like this technique very much, it's too difficult for me, so I didn't use it. I was very interested in technique of this film, so I used similar techniques in my videos.
Noe's video was mainly shot in the bathroom, while my film was mainly shot in the student apartment Urbanest next to UTS at about 9 p.m. In Noe's film, he recorded the process from washing his face in the bathroom to ringing the doorbell to open the door, while my film recorded the process from finishing my homework in the study room at night in Sydney to waiting for the red light by myself.
In my film, I also use the strategy, point of view, as well as the shaking lens and the flashing light, to create a quiet Sydney that makes me a little nervous at night, which is different from the busy Sydney at day. In my film, I use the same continuous lens as Noel's film, and no background music. Instead, I hope to make the audience can feel more authentically the tension and loneliness in the city at night through the sound of tapping of real thinking pen and the wind in Sydney at night, as well as the red light tips.
The night wind is very loud, combined with the first perspective and the accelerated pace of walking, I can fully show my understanding of the night city. That's my understanding of Noel's film and mine.
