For this project, I wanted to illustrate a characteristic that I am trying to implement in my work going foward.
Understanding of light and shadow, that in this case, would allow a flat colored 2d image to be perceived as a 3d element.

For a subject, I looked for inspiration in sculptures with meditative expressions. This illustrates the need for a serene approach to appreciate how difficult simplicity can be.
Initially looking at Easter Island statues, through my research I eventually found the sculpture "Rain" from Gil Bruvel (http://www.bruvel.com/the-collection/rain).
After some exploratory sketches, the analysis of the image allowed for the illustration of a simplified meditative head, which seems to be moving between the seen and unseen.
The use of light and shadow in this illustration lent it an extra dimension and volume despite of the use of flat colors.
