Switching up your diet for the better has so many health implications for you that it’s something you have to consider every now and then. Even if you stick to your guns and think you’ll never give up your favorite chips or processed foods in general, the thought is likely to cross your mind here and there simply because we all have an innate desire to improve ourselves.
I’ve long thought about this myself and finally posed the idea to my fiancee that we should go pescatarian for the sake of our health, for the environment, and for our interest in different and unique dishes (instead of just eating the same old grilled meats time after time).
This is already fun for me since we started a week ago. I feel healthier, more alert, and more active thanks to the new diet. But there’s also an underrated element I’ve already begun to see, and that’s the health of my teeth.
Oral health is very important to consider when it comes to diets, though it’s not likely at the forefront of your mind when deciding on what diet is best for your body. But removing processed foods and meats from your diet means direct benefits to your teeth since they’re dealing with less artificial ingredients and sugars and all that getting stuck in your teeth. Instead, I see that since I’m consuming more fish and veggies, my teeth are much cleaner and free of debris since all the ingredients and things I eat are fresh and natural.
Changing your diet isn’t an easy thing to go about doing on your own. It helps to have a buddy or significant other or family member to do it with you in order to keep the ship on track and not allow yourself to steer it off course. I’m lucky to have my partner in on the pescatarian action so that neither of us falters.
Like I mentioned above, the choice has paid off already in giving us more energy, more focus, and more healthy bodies and teeth. I’m a big fan of all the meals we’ve prepared and nothing has felt like I was choking it down whatsoever. I know a lot of people are afraid of vegetarian based diets because of “giving up tasty food”, but I can honestly say that the foods I’m eating right now are some of the tastiest I’ve ever had in my life.
