Hugo's Library Packaging III

Bookmarks and book bags
Hugo's Library is a joint bookstore and coffee bar that I created, designed, and developed for my senior capstone project. I placed the store in my hometown of Washington, Missouri. The store provides all types of literature and delicious fair-trade coffee. Hugo's also has a local slant on things with both a do-it-youself and a green attitude. A fun place to meet friends, browse books, and sip coffee, I wanted Hugo's brand to be a playful union of rustic and hip, cozy but trendy. I also love incorporating handmade elements into my designs, so I knew Hugo's would have a lot of that as well.

Below are some designs I developed for the bookstore end of Hugo's. The bookmarks were used as promotional pieces as part of Hugo's "Author of the Month" club. Each bookmark represents a different month and it's author. I also wrote funny captions with each author, things like, "Walt Whitman was friends with Hugo," and "Truman Capote drank coffee." I thought it would be fun to link these famous faces with Hugo, my company's elusive character of innovation, creativity, and imagination. For the book bags, the designs portray Hugo's green interest. Using reusable bags is a great way to reduce our carbon footprint. Again, I used a hand drawn type. These illustrations were a lot of fun to do.
