Eenie woodland caribou
I always go to the zoo at the opening, at 9 o'clock. One morning it was snowing and I saw Eenie lying in the snow and covered with snow. She got up and shook her body slightly. The snow on her fur did not seem to bother her at all. Look!
Je me rends toujours au zoo à l'ouverture, à 9 heures. Un matin, il neigeait et j'ai vu Eenie couchée dans la neige et recouverte de neige. Elle s'est levée et a légèrement secoué son corps. La neige sur sa fourrure ne semblait pas du tout la déranger. Regardez!
Eenie woodland caribou...
Eenie is born in 1991, but unfortunately she was orphaned early. Far too early. Upon arrival at the Ecomuseum Zoo, she was three days old! Eenie had no wood and was small. At the zoo, she lived there 23 years. For a caribou, that's a lot because their life expectancy is 10-15 years.
This beautiful woodland caribou loved the company of people, and people loved her. She liked to eat dandelions and carrots.
When I saw Eenie and Tuk-Tuk (a male woodland caribou) in summer 2010, it was the first time I saw the woodland caribou. I immediately liked this beautiful animal and this zoo.
Alas, a few months later there, Tuk-Tuk he passed away, he was 11 years of age*.
Quickly, I became a member of the zoo and from 2012 to 2014, I was going to the zoo on average thirty times per year. All in all, I saw the beautiful Eenie about 70 times. She recognized me and I liked to talk to her.
When the grass was high, sometimes it was difficult to see where Eenie was lying. Sometimes I only saw his little head. In a photo, you see Thalie giving green hay to Eenie. You see here the best photographs I've taken of beautiful Eenie.

Eenie la caribou des bois...
Eenie est née en 1991, mais malheureusement elle est devenue orpheline très tôt. Beaucoup trop tôt. À son arrivée au Zoo Ecomuseum, elle était âgée de trois jours! Eenie n'avait pas de bois et était petite. Eenie a vécu 23 ans au zoo. Pour un caribou, c’est beaucoup car leur espérance de vie est de 10 à 15 ans.
Cette belle caribou aimait la compagnie des gens et les gens l’aimaient. Ella aimait manger les pissenlits et les carottes.
Lorsque j’ai vu Eenie et Tuk-Tuk (un mâle caribou des bois) à l’été 2010, c’était la première fois que je voyais des caribous des bois. J’ai tout de suite aimé ce bel animal et le zoo. Hélas, quelques mois plus tard, Tuk-Tuk est décédé, il avait 11 ans*.
Rapidement, je suis devenue membre du zoo et de 2012 à 2014, j’ai visité le zoo en moyenne trente fois par année. En tout, j’ai vu la belle Eenie environ 70 fois. Elle me reconnaissait et j’aimais lui parler.

That day, I didn't know I was taking my last picture of Eenie. On May 26, seventeen days later, this beautiful woodland caribou died. She was 23 years old. I will never forget Eenie.
Ce jour-là, j'ignorais que je prenais ma dernière photo d'Eenie. Le 26 mai, dix-sept jours après, cette belle caribou des bois est décédée. Elle avait 23 ans. Jamais, je n'oublierai Eenie.
In August 2014, it was the first time I saw this fence open. The entire fence that encircled the habitat was removed, and a new habitat was built for the next caribou.
Au mois d'août 2014, c'était la première fois que je voyais cette clôture ouverte. Toute la clôture qui encerclait l'habitat fut retirée, puis un nouvel habitat fut construit pour les prochains caribous.
I will always remember this day. While I was watching the bears, near the fence Eenie looked at me, I had the impression that she was saying to me: Hey Sylvie, I'm here! Look at me.

Je vais toujours me souvenir de ce jour. Tandis que j'observais les ours, près de la clôture Eenie me regardait, j'avais l'impression qu'elle me disait: Hé Sylvie, je suis là! Regarde-moi.
