Presentation: Creating a Comic Book | KiKi's Stories

My bachelor project that falls under the name 'A Storm of Stories' is about creating your own comic book with your own cartoon character.
The decision of unleashing my passion towards comics and trying to create my own comic book, came when i first stumbled upon the famous animator Jaiden Animations.
but, i was facing a small teeny tiny problem.... i don't know how to draw.
I started by researching about cartoons and comics and how did they start.
I then went on a research asking people about their favorite cartoon characters and why was it that character that touched them. I created a questionnaire on instagram.
I also interviewed some friends about their favorite comics. Here is an sample of one of the interviews.
Taking a quick walk in the history of comics, i was influenced by the father of comics and that is Winsor McCay. Mainly, the way he uses his frames and play around with the story panels.
Another influence of mine was Calvin and Hobbes, The way the characters are very lively drawn, the gestures they make and the face reactions they have. I wanted to create lines with the same lines of action.
My main influence however, was a popular comic artist nowadays, C. Cassandra. Her stories and the way she expressed herself in the comics really caught my attention. I then decided to use her style in story telling in my own comic book.
Then comes the real problem: i STILL don't know how to draw. Here are some sketches and practice towards creating a character.
Finally the character is out of the oven and her name is KiKi!!
Some logo sketches and ideas.

In conclusion it was a crazy journey of ups and downs, but creating your own character and comic really helps you discover a lot about yourself and have an empty new medium to express oneself.
