Baan, Iwan
A photographer largely focused on photography for architecture and documentary purposes. There is a wide array of skill and techniques used by Iwan but none can be said to be consistent throughout his works, only the frequent use of wide a angled photography lens. His photographs centred on architecture are generally taken at an upward or downward angle usually to emphasise a particular feature or curve. Works based in third world countries display a use of lighting to emphasise life- that is, to frame light and movement with darkness. All other works are taken with a documentary gaze. Micro photos rarely make an appearance as his works only aim to capture an entire picture and inform the viewers.
The camera gaze follows the curved structure. Composition pans in the direction the curves flow.
Framing light, movement, life and subject with darkness.
Flat, even gaze centered on the subject with bokeh background. No dramatic lighting.
