Here are two pieces I made for Grafían, exposition on Design Mars in Reykjavík.
I was playing with the words of the former prime minister of Iceland. After announcing the collapse of the Icelandic banking system in 2008, he said these famous words God bless Iceland.
I wanted to make two different pieces, one driven on the negative part of the sentence and another on the positive.
Fist you see the negative piece. A stencil-portrait made under the influence of Jamie Reid, the designer of the famous Sex pistols cover, God save the queen.
The second piece reflects the warmer side of the words, "God bless Iceland". I designed to take a romantic approach linking the words to the typical „God bless the home“. Instead of the typical sewing method I used wood and stencil. I found the old pieces of wood in abandoned houses in the countryside. The old look took the words back in time, creating nostalgic feeling.
