JULIO
INTRODUCTION
Before entering the world of junks, I did research where I got to know that all types of junk have its own area. I discovered the “gully of junk” and that made me more fascinated towards my topic. I explored the world of junk and different type of junks. There was everything from a huge truck to a small battery. Every waste material has its own beauty. Among all the junk, I love rusty old things, the rustier the better. I realized that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
THOUGHT PROCESS
I imagined myself as an 8 year old child. I was weak in studies, my parents used to be upset when I did not score well in exams. Even at school I used to be left out by my friends. I used to keep thinking am I going wrong somewhere. I thought that how much ever you be good with them, they even don’t value you. I used to be sad most of the times.
I wanted to take this thought further. In my story, the 8 year old kid character called Julio who is inspired by me goes through similar problems. He starts feeling depressed, losing faith in himself. He feels like no one likes him or no one wants to even talk to him. He keeps thinking, sitting alone in a corner and he starts zoning out while thinking. He meets a mysterious man in the same place where he used to get all scrap and junks. This man recognizes the Julio’s situations and sees how sad he is. He starts talking to him and the Julio opens up to him. The man knows exactly what the kid needed. He leads him to a secretive door and tells him to open the door and enter inside; this would give him a new direction to life. When the kid enters inside the portal, he feels like he will never be able to step out of it. He feels like his head is spinning and is very scared. He just shuts his eyes tightly until he lands in an entirely new world. When he opens his eyes he sees a magnificent world made out of trash. He couldn’t believe his eyes. He hides behind a rusty wall to see what exactly was happening there. He was mesmerized by the beauty of the place, he saw someone called Junkie who was just like him. He was helping everybody and yet no one liked him that much. After a while, Junkie notices Julio and gets scared. Who was this new creature in their world? Both of them are confused, hesitating to come forward. Finally Junkie decides to go and talk to Julio. While having a conversation they relate with each other. They shared their problems with each other and started bonding over it. Julio learns a lot from Junkie. Junkie tells him to follow his heart and find happiness in whatever he loves to do. If being helpful gives him joy he should never stop doing it. Don’t bother what people think about you or how they treat you. Julio felt relieved and happy. His perspective of looking at life changed completely. It was time to go back home. Junkie took him to the portal; Julio did not want to leave Junkie back. Junkie started consoling him; he said “Leaving something behind is the only way to keep moving”. Julio bid him goodbye and went back home to live his life happily.
