Inspired by the well-known American ceramic-sculptor Elizabeth Shriver, the creation of the Declining Spiral Coral and the Distressed Coral came about. I have always been curious about life under the sea and when I saw Shriver’s ceramic vessels it encouraged me even more to research and create coral inspired ceramics. 

Both the vessel and bowl represent the repetitive and symmetrical characteristics of different corals species. I want to portray their unique beauty and focus attention on their complex but also simple shapes. 

The absence of vibrant colours which are associated with corals represent the danger these marine invertebrates face because of climate change. 

The Declining Spiral Coral bowl represent the global decline (disappearance) of corals and the Distressed Coral vessel represent its fight for survival. These ceramic works allow me to represent the beauty of corals and also create awareness of the challenges they face.
