John W. Nichols Scout Ranch - Identity
challenge
Without an existing identity, create an icon scout leaders could use for a logo and traditional branding iron.
solution
The Nichols family is known for integrity and traditional values. The Scouts are known for encouraging youth leadership, providing direction and instruction. So I wanted to create a meaningful identity for both the family and the scout organization. After creating a simple JN letterform for the branding iron, I incorporated a traditional shape and utilized the negative space. This technique created 4 distinct arrows that also resembled the arrows of a compass. These arrows really resonated with the scout leaders and immediately brought a sense of meaning and pride.
