Stick-It Through the Summer

Stick-It Through the Summer!
Stickers are everywhere. There's something about the Millennial and Gen Z generation that loves to personalize everything we own with stickers. Companies everywhere are realizing the marketing value of investing in stickers for their business. A picture's worth a thousand words and what better way to make a loud statement about who you are and what you like without having to say a single word?

The goal of this project was to design and print three stickers. I initially wanted to begin with the idea of cats but during the past two weeks, my creativity came to a lull and at the last minute, I decided to put aside felines for another day and start with something new: summertime stickers!
I already had in mind a picture of what I wanted the stickers to look like but I wanted some real picture references for sketching. I started with pineapple because it's my favorite fruit. As I started googling pineapple fruits, I realized that the outside is not diamond, like I thought it was. The basic shape of the outside of a pineapple is actually hexagonal. Hexagons are abundant in nature. I found that sea turtles have this design in their shells too. Thus, my theme became hexagons and summer.
With all three drafts completed, I started working on the colors and revisions. I sought out critique from my peers and after reviewing some of the suggestions of adjusting the turtle and putting some white space between tangents where the leaves and hexagons touch, I did some tweaking and asked for more input.
The final three stickers ended up like this!
By subtly changing the saturation and brightness of the colors, I was able to achieve a beautiful gradient look without using an actual gradient. The simple shapes create a minimalist, spiky coastal look, perfect for the beach and summer times. Or if you just have a summery personality, these stickers would look great as personal touch on anything!
