BC Arts Council New Foundation
Project Challenge
New Foundation is the British Columbia Arts Council’s strategic 2018-2022 five-year plan. It is a high-level guide for the arts and culture in the province. My clients wanted the plan's appearance to be abstract rather than include imagery. The plan must include the Arts Council's distinctive mark. Canadian graphic designer, Andrew Lewis Design, created the mark in 1995.
Solution/Contribution
All involved were keen to focus on the council’s mark throughout. Colour was an important component for the council. Their concept was to associate each the four “pillars” of the New Foundation's plan with a specific colour. I created several palettes for my clients to review. To illustrate the plan's four pillars, I “animated” the triangle in the centre of the mark. This illustration became central to the plan. The four triangles were used in a concise poster of the plan for the council’s staff to refer to.
The council very much appreciated the design of their strategic plan. The poster has been widely distributed throughout B.C.’s arts community.
