For Happier Childhoods

Using illustration and our knowledge of social polices we would like to portray different forms of emotional violence that are part of educational practices in our  community.

Main focus of our work is on sentences that probably almost anybody can identify with, like " As long as  you live under my roof ..." "Just wait until we get home" "Wait till your father gets home..." that are considered part of normal upbringing in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and most of the Balkans. Our initial idea is to illustrate all these forms of violent treatment, and each illustration would be accompanied with a short text that would comment on power dynamics between a parent and a child, while dealing with physical dynamics and their consequences trough illustration.

We feel that ignoring and devaluing  such forms of violence only supports these rutted bad educational practices that choose to decrease child's autonomy, decision making processes as well as developing their potentials. These patterns of intimidation can rightfully be treated as forms of violence, even do they are often overlooked and considered harmless in our cultures.
