Nebulae is a completely new typeface developed for another project which was themed on space.

Nebulae is a outer space-themed display typeface. I wanted to make it feel technical. I wanted to make it feel like it belonged on the interface of a space probe. I felt the better way at achieving this was to limit my design solution to the strict use of geometric shapes and forms.
The design itself is consistent all through-out, featuring both rounded and sharp corners. The typeface is very minimalist, best suited for posters and/or book covers. Giving these mediums, among others, a sci-fi vibe.

Using geometric forms as the basis, I began to develop some rough ideas, starting with what are referred to as "control characters" like the "H" and the "O". These characters also helped set the standard for all my other capitals.
For the lowercase, "n" and "o" did the same, and letters with ascenders and descenders, I used letters like "d" and "p", which helped me define my typeface's vertical proportions.
I didn't do any initial sketches for "p", because after I finished drawing the concepts for "d", I felt I was just going to repeat myself.

Developing my typeface in this way helped me make creative decisions more quickly without constructing the whole character set. These key characters helped me dictate the structuring of all of my letterforms.

I then moved on to further developing my full character set. In regards to approximating the correct height and width for each of my letterforms, numerals, and other typographical aids.
I opted for a very clean aesthetic that does not disrupt the shape and form of my letterforms.

Developing my very own typeface was a new challenge for me. I wanted to take my design skills to the next level. I chose to create my own typeface, not because I knew how, but because I didn't.
These two posters help bring my typeface into context. I claim no ownership over these two photographic elements used. If I could afford to go into space and shoot these images myself I would do so.
