RURAL LIFE - FØRoYAR

With only 50.000 inhabitants the main land of the Faroe Islands could be considered as "rural". Most of the landmass is covered with grass and is highly influenced by sheep which aren't the main, yet another reason why the vegetation of forests is a rare sign here. Sheep not only are regular sight here, the islands also are called after them - Føroyar literally means "the Sheep islands". So while unavailingly searching for much forests or urban sights you're instead able to spot colorful houses every now and then, some combined to little villages, some all alone surrounded only by the wide landscapes. The tiny lighthouses every know and then along the steep cliffs are guiding the fishermen their way back home after they spent a long time out at the sea.
