Synopsis:
A multi-medium animated journey of an egg to a safe space where it is acknowledged as a ‘Life’ instead of merely a commodity.
The egg is a recurring symbol in many creation myths. It represents LIFE, fertility, eternity, hope, purity and has many more positive connotations attached to it. In Hindu mythology the source of creation is said to be 'Hiranyagarbha' which literally translates to 'Golden Womb' or 'Golden Egg'.
An egg is a sacred symbol that denotes creation of life. Yet it is merely a commodity in today’s time. Using the symbol of an egg, I explored the theme of Commodification of Life.
Process:
Since this is a multi-medium animation, I required a variety of materials as well as sets. For the paper-cut animation I crafted a DIY light table. It was first animated digitally and then printed and cut from kite paper. For the felt animation, the set was built from an unused cardboard box, along with mesh, m-seal, wire, etc. For the found object animation, I collected scrap materials from the junkyard. It had to be thoroughly cleaned before using.
I could begin filming for the next scene only after I was entirely through with the first as it required a completely different setting. Managing all the various materials, keeping track and allotting time for each according to their needs was an arduous job that was totally worth the effort.
