Product & Marketing Photography

My interest in photography was born out of a desire for better images on my sewing instruction blog. It later proved useful for product packaging and marketing imagery. Below are some of my product images. Below is my experimentation with light boxes, which you can see in the reflection of the sunglasses. I've learned a lot since then as this was one of my very early attempts, and no longer have such reflections being overlooked. As you scroll through this project file I hope you notice the images improving as my skill and eye likewise improve.
The best product images tell a story or allow the user to imagine themselves using the product. Above, I pictured the small purse with keys and sunglasses to illustrate both size and also "on the go". Other versions of this style of purse included an array of makeup. Below the golf-towel would have have perfect either attached to a golf-bag or with someone using it to dry off a golf-ball. At the time, I made due with that I had. Now I'd ask someone at the local golf-club if they'd be willing to pose for a series in exchange for a custom towel. Live and learn!! Perhaps the biggest thing I've learned with photography is just to ask if someone would be willing to help stage the perfect image. Most people are perfectly willing to help out if given a reasonable chance.
DW Embroidery created custom branded apparel but also provided brand and marketing consulting. Below is an example of a custom designed table drape branded with the wine company's logo. This particular one features a lot of metallic silver thread. In order to capture the quality of the stitching effectively, photographing it proved an interesting challenge. You can see the light reflecting and glinting on the silver thread, making it a dynamic image.
Product photography is also very useful when creating instructional photography. Below is an image from a series on how to hand-sew eyelets.
My photography interest grew when I realized just how effective great images where for marketing. As a member of the Santa Maria Kennel Club, I volunteer as their event marketing officer. I use both images I have captured of their events, such as the one below, as well as leverage great images captured by the other photography enthusiasts and use them to drive not only membership engagement and growth but also promote the club and its events.
This stunning baby girl is from Sun King Farms Arabians. The owner now uses this series of images for her Facebook and Instagram pages.
Continuing my growth as a photographer, I started a travel blog at MyNerdAdventures.com and also an Instagram account of the same name. I haven't done product photography in a while, but it's something I want to get back.
