Coco Chanel once stated that “in order to be irreplaceable one must always be different” and that’s exactly what Bettina Thomas is. Originally born in France Bettina is a globally renowned milliner, whose work has been worn at major events, including royal weddings, as well as throughout Europe and America, with clients spanning Italy, France, Belgium, the UK, Germany, Monaco, the Netherlands, Turkey and the USA. Originally she was a couture dressmaker, however, today she has succeeded “in fusing a life of fluctuating cultures and ever-changing landscapes into a seamless vision of hat designs challenging enough to excite her clients, whilst also leaving them at ease with what they are wearing”. Every individual hat is inspired by the immense passion she feels for the craft as well as her continuous awareness of everything around her. Bettina is currently living in Cape Town, one of the worlds most creative and multicultural countries, and states that she couldn’t be more inspired by the range of new ideas and opportunities this opens up for her. She thrives on the excitement of not knowing what her next project will require her to envision, and the fusion of European and African aesthetics is definitely an area she is keen to develop further. Through this photographic series of images I therefore want to showcase the exquisite beauty and variety that can be created in this cross cultural nation. I also want to capture her brand in a way that represents it high fashion, expensive, current, and voguish. My concept is Color Couture.
