Intro to Photography by Adeola Uthman
A collection of photographs I've taken over the past two to three years. I only recently became very interested in photography, and even more recently in photo editing. This series features photos that I took starting from my first year of college in 2016 up through now, the end of my third year.

All of the edits were done around or after June 2018, which is when I first became very interested in photo editing while waiting for the subway one day in New York. This is also where the name "Intro to Photography" comes from - my recent interest in the art form. Hope you enjoy!

Rooftop
Rooftop - Taken on a New York City rooftop in November 2016 and edited in June 2018. The top photo is the version edited on Adobe Lightroom, and the bottom image is the original photo.

With this photo, I first wanted to increase the contrast in order to give it more depth. I also lowered the black point, which is what helped achieve the depth effect. Secondly, I wanted to give the photo a warmer color scheme. I began editing the photo in June 2018, and so I wanted it to feel like it was taken in the summer even though it was taken in November. Turning up the vibrancy and saturation allowed me to get this effect.

New York City
New York City - Photo taken the morning after a heavy rain just outside of Washington Square Park. I took the photo while on my way to class in December 2016. I edited it in June 2018 and gave it a higher contrast level as well as some brightness enhancements. The photo on the left is the original and the one on the right has been edited in Adobe Lightroom.

Homewood Field
Homewood Field - A panorama taken of Homewood Field on the campus of Johns Hopkins University in August 2017. Edited in June 2018, the photo has added levels of contrast and vibrancy which make the blue of the sky and the green of the field pop more. The edited photo is on top and the original is on the bottom.

Backstreets
Backstreets - This photo was taken just behind the Bobst Library of New York University in April 2018. It features a man looking up as he walks forward in front of a few buildings, including the library. The original photo is on the left and the edited version is on the right.

The edited version is very different from the original. Much of the dark theme of the original has been replaced with a grainy, warm light over the sidewalk and the buildings. The warmer tone (achieved through enhancements in vibrancy, texture, and color) gives the photo a more moody feeling, like the man in the photo is deep in thought. It's as if he is walking toward a new beginning.

Abandoned Hallway
Abandoned Hallway - With this photo, my aim was to give the illusion of an abandoned hallway; my goal was to make it look like a once busy building that is has not been used for years. It is originally of the Courant math building at New York University, however by changing the saturation and lighting I was able to make it seem much eerier. The original photo is on the left and the edit is on the right.

Blue Sky
Blue Sky - A photo taken on a sidewalk in New York City. The intent of the edit was to bring out the texture of the sky and give the clouds more detail. This was done by increasing the contrast and playing around slightly with the vibrancy.

Car Dealership
Car Dealership - This photo was taken at a car dealership in New Jersey. It was up on a hill, which allowed me to get a good look of the cars, the trees, and the sky. The original photo is on the left and the edited version is on the right.

Hudson Yards
Hudson Yards - A photograph taken at Hudson Yards in New York City just before it started raining. I could not decide which version of the edits I preferred, so I included both. The original is on the top. The first edit features some contrast and vibrancy enhancements while the second uses an updated color scheme that is much warmer than the original, and looks like a sunset.
