Smoke in the mountains

2015 and 2017 were particularly bad years for forest fire smoke in southeast BC.

A recent study in the journal Science discusses the widespread smoke in the area to shed light on the possible the climatic effects of nuclear war, with burning cities, and the ensuing nuclear winter (National Post August 9, 2019 - worth a read for context).

I took the following photographs in August of 2015 and 2017 in the Invermere area of southeast BC.

Sunrise in the mountains and forest fires are burning a thousand kilometers to the north.

During the day, the thick smoke drains the colour from the landscape. The smoke is choking and we are advised to stay indoors.
