X-Particles Challenge 2018
The 'X' geometry was created using the volume builder in Cinema 4D R20, in combination with cloners and some polygon modelling. The pipe structures were generated with X-Particles using the network modifier.
Energy and electricity effects were created by using the XP Skinner object to mesh together simple emissions and deformed trails.
The shockwave was created using Explosia to advect particles. The particles and their trails were then meshed with the OVDBMesher and a displacer object was added to the geometry for additional details.
Octane was used for the shading and rendering. I used the toon shader for the main geometry and a simple emissive material for the energy and fire fx.
Feel free to download the scene file if you're intersted. You'll need X-Particles 4 and Octane if you want to see the materials/renders. I've baked the volume builder down to geometry for the R19 version. It should also work in earlier versions of C4D.
