Synthesis is a conceptual 3D project dedicated to my biggest fascinations - space exploration and planet Mars. This beautiful and rusty planet is so far away, yet it is the most similar to our planet earth. Studying the astronaut space suit technology and constructions, I implemented my observations into the collection. I decided to challenge myself completely and go into an uncomfortable territory - To create every little detail seen in this project from scratch. As a sequel of my Prototype series - this project is again an experimentation of advanced concepts in fully digital environment. Continuing my ongoing obsession with 3D softwares, I combined all of my previous life experiences and skills into one outcome - a fully digital 3D concept project with a sustainable vision.
We are living in a golden age of space exploration and technology, yet we are facing the biggest paradox of our times - the global waste problem. Working with 3D technology, massively reduces the hard labour and environmental waste. Therefore this project is fully made in 3D before production.
As an experiment, I explored different fabric treatments to embody the beautiful surface of the planet Mars. I used an actual 3D scan of the planet Mars made by Stamen.com. These extraordinary visuals captured by satellites became a distinctive element of the collection. Most of the collection consists from single layer Nylon fabric printed with reflective ink. Shortly after, this ink expands and creates surface textures. This combination creates a unique glow and adapts to different light situations on each garment. Other garments have highly reflective coating with laser cut graphics. Giving a unique burned fabric effect.
3D CREATION PROCESS
Every project is a step towards long lasting product design that leaves a much smaller footprint on the planet and that is not affected by seasonal trends of fashion. Driven by my passion for science fiction movies and digital creation tools, over the past few years, I have been dedicating myself to study 3D softwares. My goal is to bridge the digital tools used in video game and movie industry together with the fashion industry. This exciting and innovative design process gives me a completely new perspective and freedom of creativity. The result is a non stop evolving process where I seek a balance between digital software advantages in a combination with apparel concepts and visualizations.
The 3D design process is a reflection of classical tailoring principles, only in a digital environment. With this sustainable approach, I have the ability to explore various concept ideas very quickly before any piece of fabric is wasted. By using a library of 3D avatars, I create and simulate patterns instantly. By studying the heat maps of the human body and its dynamic movements, I look for a distinctive design language. In my works I follow the principle – form follows function. The patterns and the materials are spread over the garment constructions with a functional and ergonomic purpose. Different panel sections wrapped around the human body giving support to specific areas. This approach to design works towards long lasting product with a sustainable outcome.
The aesthetic aspect of the design is as important as the functionality. The goal of the visualization phase is to explore and combine unusual sources of inspiration that can provide unpredictable yet exciting solutions. This project was created by using Clo3D and Keyshot 8. All of the 3D assets and final visuals were specially made for this project from start to finish.
