Very excited to share with you my latest clip "RUN!". This is a personal study of the amazing look and feel from the lego movie. To better appreciate all the work we put in this short piece I recommend watching it fullscreen with headphones on. Enjoy!
ORIGIN
When I saw the trailer where Emmet asked for a coffee with "a touch of cream and 25 sugars tiny bit of sugar" I thought to myself "would've been cool if the barista just rushed him out of the place", that's how "RUN!" was born. After that I went to the incredible Mecabricks website (strongly recommend you have a look if you like Legos and 3D), started searching for all the models I was going to need for this project, the ones the weren't available in the library I model myself using their own modeling tool.
ANIMATION
For the animation I reach out to my buddy Adalberto Nivar who did an excellent job achieving the stop motion style of the film. For this he first animated the scene normally, then baked all the keyframe using a 1.5 steps and finally adjusted all the necessary keys until reached a point where we were both happy.
TITLE
Originally the piece was going to be called "RUN EMMET... RUN!" but because the main clip ended up being too short, I had to make the intro and the credit as short as possible so they don't grab all the attention. And because we don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents, I ended up liking the name "RUN!" a lot better.

The lighting was setup with a simple area light placed on top of each name. The idea of using only one light is to allow the Global Illumination calculation to do the rest of the job, this allowed me to achieve a soft and nice lighting condition, similar to the one used in the credits of the film.
THANKS FOR WATCHING!
