This project was a proposal made to the Center of Architecture of Slovenia. The theme was to take inspiration from the life and works of Edvard Ravnikar - a well known and impactful Slovenian architect. It falls within their Gift of Slovenian Architecture collection which showcases products with motifs from key works from Slovenian architectural heritage and contemporary architecture.
Edvard Ravnikar promoted a Scandinavian architectural style in Slovenia. His most notable creations feature prominently in Ljubljana, among them are The Republic Square, Cankar Hall, Maximarket department store and the Museum of Modern Art.
He often used sharp corners with very honest materials. Combining metals, concrete and glass was always a must and he did it in a way that he stayed true to every material.
I took inspiration in many of his works from small tombstones to large buildings. The shapes revealed a lovely modular wine cooler which resembles TR2 and TR3 buildings in the Republic Square.
It is made out of lightweight concrete with carefully arranged holes that allow less material to be used while still having the rigid structure that resembles Ravnikars style. The product comes to life when a bottle of wine is inserted and glass meets concrete.
The blocks are infinitely stackable and can create interesting micro architecture on their own. Due to modern demands, the concrete blocks come in various different colour options to suit every taste.
A concrete specific dye is added to the concrete mix, creating an interesting coloured effect to the concrete texture.
Thank you for taking the time!
