Sisler IDM Portfolio 2019
Reflection:
In DV this year, it was definitely different from my first experience last year. I think the big factor is the amount of people in the group. Last year we only had six people working in a small space, it was much easier to interact with everyone in that setting. I was a mainly a 3d modeler last year and this time around I became a leader/manager. I was excited to be leading the group but at the same time I was super nervous. I was right to be nervous, in the first week we came across some conflicts with ideas which is to expected, although it just kept piling up. For to first month and a half, most of what I did were managing, making sure everything is working okay, going through any technical problems with Jaskaran, and checking on the other members if they need any assistance. Eventually I felt I wasn't doing enough so tried getting any work done in anything else. In the end I made some models, some textures and some sounds. Most of the reason I started working on other stuff is because some of the other members made me feel like I wasn't doing anything at all by managing, seeing that I didn't have any physical thing to show like models or something. So I made things for my individual accountability. As i was doing that more conflict arose from our group, and there was a point that i felt some people were bringing me down as a leader, telling me that I should be doing this or that I'm not doing anything, or I'm not doing things right. I ended up getting tired of all of that, and I even started feeling bad when i was called leader because i didn't feel like i was. There were certain people in the group that had a big ego, so i mostly started working closer to the people i was comfortable with, but because there was that kind gap it was hard to communicate with each other. Near the end of the semester, realizing that the due date is coming up, we kinda threw away our emotions and focused on completing the game. We did end up finishing everything but our connection with each other was different from the first day. In the end, there were people i was happy to have worked with and some that i did not. I learned a couple things from this semester; there are some people who are just not compatible working together in a group, the organization and planning in the beginning is a vital part of the project, and the biggest thing.. I'm not cut out to be a leader.
Roles:
3D Modeller: Around the beginning I started doing models for my accountability, it was just something I was already comfortable with. I made any extra models that the other modellers weren't assigned to and also fixing any broken ones.

Texture Artist: I made a couple textures, they were mostly for walls and wallpapers in the house. I tried doing UV editing for the models but it got a bit annoying when it came to broken models.

Sound Design: I volunteered early on to help Jaskaran on sound stuff, but we started a bit later on when there were levels to put the sounds in. When we started, Jaskaran gave me a crash course on FL Studios. I had fun making soundtracks for specific levels, I spent a lot of time late at night listening to creepy music for reference. I enjoyed this role but I wasn't really the best at it, all i knew is how to add sounds and how to make ambiance soundtrack.
