The 2019 European Semester

After the positive reception from last year's design, the European Commission requested me to design the branding for this year's Country Specific Recommendations seminar.

Evolving from the previous year's design, I adopted a bright, colourful and eye catching colour palette. It was requested that the branding would draw in a younger, diverse audience - it was crucial that the event felt welcoming and open to the public. As the 2019 seminar conference focused on employment, I created abstract illustrations depicting working life. One challenge with this project was handling the depiction of different jobs in the design. There ran the risk of the illustrations falling into cliched and stereotypical visualisations of different professions. To avoid this, I simplified the illustrations into abstract patterns, suggesting various aspects of working life, without being too explicit. 

This project was an excellent opportunity. Getting to work on the branding for this event a second year in a row allowed for reflection on how my process and designs have developed from this time last year. It was a privilege to be asked back to work on this year's event branding.
